IH is the premiere bohemian backpackers hostel in New Orleans.
Find your way to social travel with our community of dedicated staff and guests just like you.

a passion for creating community

We have everything a traveler needs to make the most of their time in New Orleans

Social Travel

Find a best friend, or just a trip buddy, in our common areas. Share a documentary in the TV room. Share a drink by the pool. Share a meal you’ve never had before.

Non-Shareable Travel

Travelers need to do laundry, too. Use our coin- or app-op laundry room. Not everything you do on your trip gets posted. Take care of those basic needs right here.

Pool

The world’s getting hotter. Beat the heat (and that hangover) with a lazy day at the pool. Swing in a hammock, float on a flamingo, or bask in the sun. Wear sunscreen!

Unique Aesthetic

There’s no corporate art at India House. Okay, there might be a few prints we got because they look cool. But there are dozens of murals and original artworks all through the common areas and the guest rooms.

A Staff of Travelers

Most of our staff are experienced travelers. Even if they’re new to New Orleans, they’re here for the city. Sometimes “I really want to go-” is more helpful than “Everybody needs to go-“

A Retreat to Recharge

IH isn’t in the French Quarter. We’re ten minutes away by streetcar in a quiet residential neighborhood. Even if you’re a party animal, everybody needs a quiet day between crazy nights.

the good times will roll

Events at IH tend to be spontaneous, but a lot of fun. Jam sessions on our stage. Cookouts. Pool parties. Movie nights. It’s not about what we do. It’s about what our staff and guests want to do together.
